Michigan City Police Department Finishes “Operation Pull Over” for March 2015

Comparing Crash reports from March 2014 total crashes of 104 to this March 2015 total crashes of 102 there was a 2% decrease in motor vehicle accidents.

The Michigan City Police Department has completed our participation in the OPO traffic enforcement grant for the month of March 2015. We had 14 extra patrols working 28.5hrs of over time, paid from a Grant issued by the Indiana Governors Council. Officers stopped 92 vehicles for traffic violations.

Several Arrest were made; A FTA warrant arrest (3 x DWS, Battery, RLE, Reckless Driving, Speed, Poss Paraphernalia, open container), a warrant for Probation Violation (Theft), a warrant arrest for Probation Violation (Theft), A Battery Warrant, Never Rec License, Resisting Law Enforcement, Poss Marijuana and DWS.

Officers wrote 54 Citations; 40 for Seat Belt violation, 1 Child Restraint Violation, 1 Suspended driver with a prior conviction, 2 other Suspended drivers, 6 license violations, violations, 3 speeding violation, and 1 disregarding a stop sign. Officers also wrote 60 warning tickets.

The Grant has allowed the Michigan City Police Department to add extra patrol Officers on the street, Officers working the grant assisted with several calls for service.

Officers of the Michigan City Police Department will continue working the OPO (Traffic safety) grant along with the Countywide DUI Task Force to improve the Quality of Life to the citizens of Michigan City.
