The La Porte High School Winter Color Guard received the Gold Medal for placing first in the Scholastic Open class finals of the Midwest Color Guard Circuit Championships (MWCGC) held April 1 and 2 La Porte High School. This is the 2nd year in a row La Porte has been named circuit champion. Complete class results for Scholastic Open Class were as follows:
- La Porte - 88.6
- Lake Central - 79.0
- Chesterton - 68.5
The guard will conclude their season by traveling to Dayton, OH, to compete in the Winter Guard International (WGI) World Championships April 6-8. They will perform at 11:50 AM EST Thursday at the Wright State University Nutter Center. The Scholastic Open Class prelims will begin with 47 guards from across the country. 24 guards will advance to the Semi-Finals to be held on Friday at the University of Dayton Arena. The top 15 scoring guards in Semi-Finals will advance to the Finals to be held Saturday at the University of Dayton Arena. La Porte has been a WGI World Championship Finalist four times.
