La Porte High School Music Ensembles Receive Gold Ratings

laporte-slicers-logoSeven ensembles from the LaPorte High School Music Department received Gold Division ratings at the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) High School Organization Festivals hosted over the past two weekends. The Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Concert Orchestra, and Symphony Orchestra all received Gold Ratings, the highest rating possible, at Concord High School on April 25 and 26. The Wind Ensemble, Treble Chorale and Mixed Chorale all received Gold Ratings at the ISSMA State Qualification Contest held at Chesterton and Valparaiso High Schools on May 3.

The Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Treble Chorale and Mixed Chorale were awarded Gold Ratings with Distinction due to their scores being very high. Groups are evaluated upon their preparation of three selected pieces as well as sight-reading music they have never seen before. Possible ratings include Gold, Silver, Bronze, or a Participation Award. The LPHS Bands will also receive the “ISSMA All Music Award” for excellence in marching, solo and ensemble, jazz and concert performances for the 2013-14 school year. The LPHS Bands have been awarded this honor by ISSMA every year since the inception of this award.
