La Porte High School Competes in 2017 ISSMA Organizational Contest

laporte-slicersThree choirs from La Porte High School recently competed in the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Organizational Contest. Each choir's overall rating is determined by the combination of scores from three performance judges and one sight-reading judge. High School ensembles can enter in Group I through IV, with Group I being the most difficult. They can earn Gold, Silver, Bronze, or Participation ratings.

On April 22, the combined Beginning and Intermediate Women's Chorus competed at Northridge High School in Group III. The Women's Choir received three Gold ratings for performance and another Gold rating for sight-reading.

On April 29, the Advanced choirs, Chorale and Treble Chorale, competed in the ISSMA Group I State Qualification Contest at Chesterton Middle School. Both choirs received three Gold ratings for their performance. Treble Chorale earned a Gold rating for sight reading and Chorale earned a Gold rating with a perfect score in sight reading.

The mixed choir and two women's choir are under the direction of Thomas Coe, accompanied by Jane DeVries.

These choirs, along with the Beginning Men's Chorus and Show Choir will perform together at their Spring Concert on Wednesday, May 10. The performance begins at 7:00 in the High School auditorium and is presented with free admission. The concert will conclude with the combined choirs singing a medley of songs from the new Broadway musical, Hamilton.
