La Porte High School Class of 1977 Makes $5,000 Gift to the Teen Dream Fund

The LPHS Class of 1977 topped their 40th Reunion with a $5,000 donation to the Teen Dream Fund. The Teen Dream Fund encourages youth to participate in extra-curricular school-based activities.

The Class of 1977 was looking for ways to celebrate its 40th Reunion in a meaningful way. LPHS Class of ‘77 President, Shaw Friedman said, “We started collecting donations from our class through the Unity Foundation. We asked Unity for ideas of programs we could support. Of those options, the Teen Dream Fund won the vote of class members attending the reunion. Today we are delighted to make this gift to reduce financial barriers to participate in extra-curricular activities.”

The Teen Dream Fund was started in 2015 by the Peter and Mary Kay Steele family. Past grants include helping send the LPHS Marching Band to the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Parade. Peter Steele said, “We are thrilled and honored that this high school class has chosen to support the fund. Certainly that contribution will be put to good use for kids that need it.”

La Porte High School Principal, Ben Tonagel, said, “Our school is very appreciative of the thoughtful and generous gift from the Class of 1977. The Teen Dream Fund is a great resource available to our students to enhance their Slicer Experience. Extra-curricular activities are central to the development of kids and gifts like this to the Teen Dream Fund can open up opportunities for all students."
