BOYS WRESTLING HOBART REGIONAL 2024

The Lake Central Indians were victorious at the Regionals held by Hobart High School.

GIRLS BASKETBALL SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP CROWN POINT VS. VALPARAISO 2024

The Sectional Championship was between the Valparaiso Vikings and the Crown Point Bulldogs. The Vikings came out with the early lead and would not let go. It was a close game until the 4th quarter when the Vikings pulled ahead with a final score of 41-28.

GIRLS BASKETBALL SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP LAKE CENTRAL VS. MERRILLVILLE 2024

The Lake Central Indians Girls Basketball team are back-to-back-to-back Sectional Champions – defeating the Merrillville Pirates 51-39 on Saturday evening to secure their three-peat and the 2024 Sectional Title.

Vanessa Wimberly led Lake Central with a 19 point game. Aniyah Bishop also posted a double digit point total for the Indians, scoring 11 on the evening. The Pirates were led by Kylie Wells, who led her team with 10 points.

Lake Central moves on to face South Bend Washington in the Regional Championship next Saturday, while the Pirates close their season with a record of 17-9.

Region Sports Update

Exciting stuff is happening around the Region! Here’s a rundown: 

Valparaiso Wide Receiver Scotty Bradney has committed to furthering his football career as part of the Crimson Wave! Bradney announced his intention to attend Calumet College of St. Joseph after high school.

Congratulations to Lake Central Boys Wrestling Coach Luke Triveline who was named Hobart Regional Coach of the Year!

Valparaiso Girls Basketball Head Coach Candy Wilson just recently got her 400th career win!

You may remember us mentioning Valparaiso High School Diver Reagan Williams breaking the pool diving record a few weeks ago, but she’s gone and done it again! Thanks to her efforts, she has been named SAAC Athlete of the Week.

Congratulations to Jack Smiley of the Valparaiso Vikings Boys Basketball team for becoming the first junior in school history to reach 1000 career points.

Smiley ranks #13 in points per game in the state of Indiana 

The Boys Basketball competition in the Duneland Athletic Conference is heating up! 

The standings have fluctuated so much throughout the first few DAC meetings.

The Crown Point Bulldogs currently lead the DAC with a 4-1 record in conference play 

It looks like the battle for the DAC Championship could come down to the wire as the Valparaiso Vikings sit in second place with a 3-1 record in conference play.

Eric Schreiber, Jr., former defensive coordinator for the Hobart Brickies, has stepped up to become the new head coach of the high school team! While Schreiber may not have much experience as a head coach, he knows what it means to be a Brickie and is ready to uphold and expand the team’s reputation.

The (23-4) Lake Central Indians Girls team takes on the (19-4) South Bend Washington Panthers.

The (18-7) Valparaiso Vikings Girls take on (24-3) Northridge Raiders.

East Chicago Central Semi-State Meet at 9 a.m. Central Time.
