But Iago, one of Shakespeare’s most devious villains, uses racism and jealousy to manipulate Othello toward his demise and ruin. THE WAY DOWN WANDERERS & GATO

The Acorn Concert Series is back for 2019. On summer Saturdays, enjoy family-friendly evenings at Gabis Arboretum while listening to a variety of musical artists, sipping craft beer and wine and savoring food from local vendors. Don’t forget your lawn chair!

ART IN THE NATIONAL PARK

Join staff and visitors at Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk to learn how to paint with local artists. The Art Barn School of Art is providing an artist to teach visitors how to paint a picture inspired by the dunes. A canvas and paints will be provided for this free class. The class is limited to 20 adult painters. Be prepared to park in auxiliary parking during the summer due to parking congestion. Please call the visitor center at 219-395-1882 to register.

OPENING CELEBRATION FOR THE FORT LA PLAY

The City of La Porte Park and Recreation Department will hold the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the renovated Fort La Play Porte playground at 7 p.m. Friday, August 9, in Kesling Park. The department will also be dedicating the road through Kesling Park – and running past Fort La Play Porte – in honor of Dean Heise, who served as the Park Superintendent for three decades.
