10 Fun Things to Do in NWI for March 30th – April 1st, 2018

It is Easter weekend and there are plenty of springtime festivities for the whole family! This weekend is complete with egg hunts around the Region, art shows, movies, fish fries, and more! Check out our 10 Fun Things for this weekend in Northwest Indiana!

March 30: Spring Egg-citement - Hammond, IN
Lake County Parks and Rec invites you to come out to Gibson Woods anytime between 10am and 2 pm on Friday, March 30 and celebrate the start of the new season, and learn about all the different animals that hatch from eggs! Kids can partake in egg-citing games, and make a fun craft to take home. This event is for all ages.

March 30: Greater La Porte County Ministerial Association Cross Walk - La Porte, IN
The Greater LaPorte County Ministerial Association is pleased to announce the details of their annual “Cross Walk” on Good Friday March 30th in the city of LaPorte. The annual tradition will start this year at Christ Church 802 Indiana Ave, La Porte, IN 46350 at 12noon. Six downtown churches and IU Health Hospital will host this “walk” as it moves around the downtown.

March 30: Westville United Methodist Church Fish Fry - Westville, IN
The Friday Night Fish Fry crew of the Westville United Methodist Church is serving their Friday night Fish Fries through March 30th every Friday. Dinner includes your choice of Fried or Baked Pollack or Shrimp, or Fish/Shrimp Combo, Chicken Strips; French Fries or Baked Potato, coleslaw, or mac & cheese or apple sauce; and drink for $9.00 adults, and $8.00 for Senior Citizen. Children’s meal for ages 3-10 is $5.00 and kids under 3 are free. Dessert and pop is available at an additional charge. Serving from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.

March 30 - April 1: Woodland Park in Bloom - Portage
This 64 acre park is the center of the City of Portage Park System. Woodland Park houses the Parks Department administrative offices, a community center featuring banquet halls, a multi-purpose gymnasium and access to the Iron Horse Trail. This picturesque wooded park is also home to Woodland Park Preschool, the Veteran’s Memorial, a playground, a skate park, a gazebo, picnic shelters, a sledding hill, an Oak Savanna habitat, the community garden and a dog park.

March 30-31: Mocha Flavored Clouds - Gary, IN
Extended by popular demand! LaRon Emcee’s exhibit was originally only for two days, however, due to several requests, the artist decided he could extend the show until Saturday, March 31. Gary born artist LaRon Emcee (Ronald Randolph) is a painter, illustrator and street artist who now resides in Las Vegas. He was a student of Emerson Visual & Performing Arts Academy and Fine Art at IUN.

March 30-April 1: Overwhelming Beauty: Painting, Collage, and Sculpture by Henning Eichinger & Yvonne Kendall - Valparaiso, IN
German artists and educators Henning Eichinger and Yvonne Kendall present an installation in the Brauer Museum that involves both paintings and sculptural creations. The exhibition not only highlights the artists’ unique visions but also celebrates 50 years of fine collaboration between Valparaiso University and Reutlingen University.

March 31: Porter County Community Egg Hunt - Valparaiso, IN
Free one day only event for children ages 0-12 of Porter County. Saturday, March 31st at Westside Park, doors open at 9:30am. Hunt starts at 10:00am rain or shine!!

March 31: Blue Moon Night Hike - Griffith
Ever hear the phrase “Once in a Blue Moon”? Wonder where it comes from, or what a ‘blue moon’ even is? Discover this and more on an evening hike through Oak Ridge Prairie (For ages 5 and up)

March 31: Belvedere Senior Housing Community Easter Eggstravaganza - Merrillville, IN
Bring the family out for breakfast, fun activities and an Easter Egg Hunt for all ages!

April 1: Flashback Cinema: Easter Parade at the Portage 16 IMAX + GDX - Portage, IN
Judy Garland and Fred Astaire, two of the greatest stars from Hollywood’s Golden Age, team up in this joyous holiday musical from composer Irving Berlin (White Christmas). One of the most successful of all MGM musicals, with some of Berlin’s best songs, including “Shakin’ the Blues Away” (performed by Ann Miller), “Steppin’ Out with My Baby,” “A Couple of Swells” and, of course, the title song.
