LakeFest takes place at Pine Lake, Stone Lake, and Clear Lake in La Porte. Friday’s festivities included sand volleyball tournaments for women and girls at the Dunes Event Center and a concert from Catalina Wine Mixer at Stone Lake. Families could also catch a concert with Justin Roberts at the Dennis F. Smith Amphitheater.

"It brings everybody out to show them the lakes and a wide variety of events," said Drew Buchanan, a La Porte native.

The fun continued into Saturday morning with more volleyball tournaments and a 5K run/walk sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of La Porte. Both events saw participants getting outside along the beautiful Lake Michigan lakefront to enjoy the weather and the company. The outdoor activities at the Kids Fun Zone, like arts and crafts and games had smiles on many young faces.

The big draw of the day was the P1 AquaX jet ski races held at Stone Lake. The free event saw competitors from across the country going head-to-head as onlookers enjoyed the watery action, fresh drinks, and delicious food from local vendors.

"It's great because we're originally from this area and we now live outside of Atlanta," said Jerry Schomaker, "My son-in-law Kelly and his best friend, Rob are racing today. So we will be here to cheer them on."

Residents from the City of La Porte and beyond were out in droves at every LakeFest event. For the community, summer events like this help to connect everybody, building a stronger Region.

“It supports small businesses," said Mandy Krickhahn, business owner of The Collective, "It brings people together, and then a portion of the proceeds from the event is going to benefit Paladin.”

Of course, events like LakeFest wouldn’t be possible without the contributions of local community members and businesses. Sponsorships from NIPSCO, Visit Michigan City LaPorte, 1st Source Bank, American Renolit, Comcast, General Insurance Services, Larson-Danielson Construction, and Northwest Health all help to bring attractions to LakeFest.
