A key part of the La Porte community, the La Porte Civic Auditorium has been a staple throughout the Region since 1930.
In an effort to both modernize the Civic Auditorium and maintain its history, renovations have been planned for the almost 100-year-old building.
“The importance of the Civic to the community of La Porte is hard to put into words. Generations have attended events at the Civic, and the renovations we have scheduled will help the Civic and our community in many different ways,” Brett Binversie, director of the Civic Auditorium said.
Upcoming renovations will include upgrades to seating, the addition of air conditioning to the main gymnasium, and the replacement of the current boiler heating system with a modern one.
“By providing air conditioning on the main level, we can serve our community in a better fashion for emergency shelter during severe weather or recovery from major events,” Binversie said. “These units will provide community access to a much safer and comfortable facility with the addition of A/C on the main level and improved heating throughout the facility.”
Knowing that the Civic Auditorium is more than an event space, renovations planned for the center have kept the community in mind.
“Renovations will allow for increased usage of the Civic as a whole with seating improvements and more events, which is also helpful for local businesses,” Binversie said.
Improving the Civic Auditorium not only expands the offerings of the center but is a huge benefit to the community.
“As we approach our 100th anniversary we want to prepare the facility for the next 100 years,” Binversie said. “These renovations are important in bringing our infrastructure and guest experience into the 21st century.”
Keeping the work local, the Civic Auditorium has partnered with La Porte’s own Larson-Danielson Construction to ensure the project is done well and at a high level of quality.
“We are beyond proud that local contractor Larson-Danielson is involved with the renovation,” Binversie said. “Larson-Danielson was the original contractor tasked with building this beautiful facility in 1929. We now feel the building is ready to be successful for the next 100 years.”
