American RENOLIT makes its mark in La Porte through quality products and community service

For three generations, American RENOLIT, a 76-year-old global plastic fabrication business, has manufactured plastic film at its plant in La Porte, Ind. This plastic film has various applications, ranging from use in furniture to vehicles to hospitals and more. Ever since the American RENOLIT staked its claim in La Porte, it has grown quickly, and President Nils Dietz sees a great future for the company in Indiana and the U.S.

Part of the future includes prioritizing sustainability—both the creation of sustainable products and the recycling of waste.

“We are really working on closing the loop of circular economy that we do not have to sell any waste to external parties,” Dietz said. “We are even working on projects taking back customer waste to recycle and reuse for existing on new products.”

Of course, that future can only be ensured by the hard work of the American RENOLIT’s staff. Dietz praises American RENOLIT employees for exercising commitment, honesty, teamwork, and reliability in their approach to work. Employees have access to great benefits including competitive pay, a 401K plan, life insurance, health plans, and more.

“We really see our employees as our biggest asset, so we do everything we can to take care of them,” said Human Resources Manager Melissa Gruber.

With their appreciation for their staff, the American RENOLIT management team looks for ways to celebrate their employees whenever they can.

“For Employee Appreciation Day, we from the management team went through the whole plant and gave everybody a little bag with some goodies–pens or bottle openers and good chocolate. We shook everybody’s hand and told them how we appreciate them,” Dietz said.

With a great team and team spirit, American RENOLIT also regularly seeks out ways to support the communities where its employees live and work. Through the years, American RENOLIT has supported and even sponsored many events and organizations, including the La Porte ice rink, a Christmas magic show for kids, Tour De La Porte, and drag boat races.

American RENOLIT finds a way to make a contribution to the community a couple of times a year. Last year, American RENOLIT decided to have a competition between shifts to gather donations to give to the Pax Center. This year, American RENOLIT donated classroom supplies to first-year teachers at La Porte High School. These are only a few examples of how American RENOLIT has aided its community.

Choosing how to get involved in the community can stem from seeing events and needs pop up in the community. American RENOLIT will also sometimes reach out to its employees via survey to see what they are passionate about supporting.

“After we did our ‘Adopt a Family’ for many years, we switched over to teachers a few years ago because that was something that all of our employees valued. We gave them some options, and they said, ‘Hey, let's help out first-year teachers for a while.’”To learn more about the companies making a difference in La Porte, visit La Porte Economic Advancement Partnership’s website at https://laportepartnership.com/.
