RED SHIELD RUN 5K RETURNS FOR THIRD YEAR

Event Information

8:35am - 8:35am

The Red Shield Run 5K, a fundraising run for The Salvation Army of Michigan City, will return for its third year on Saturday, October 12.

“This run is always a fun and exciting way to raise some much-needed funds for our cause, but it also gives us a chance to talk about The Salvation Army and the impact we are trying to make so the community has a better understanding of who we are,” said Major Becky Simmons of The Salvation Army of Michigan City.

The 5K will begin and end at Krueger Middle School, 2001 Springland Avenue.  The course will follow Springland Avenue and circle the neighborhood of Pottawattomie Park.

“We really enjoy this route because it highlights a beautiful part of our city where this type of event doesn’t usually occur,” Simmons said.  “We really appreciate the partnership of Michigan City Area Schools and the Town of Pottawattomie Park on this event every year.”

The Red Shield Run 5K is a timed road race, with professional chipped timing provided by T&H Timing.

Early bird registration is $25, and race day registration is $30.  Students will receive a $5 discount.

Registration is available by visiting www.thtiming.com and searching for the Red Shield Run 5K, or by visiting The Salvation Army of Michigan City at 1201 S. Franklin Street, Michigan City during office hours Monday through Thursday from 9am to noon and 1pm to 3pm.

Simmons also thanked the sponsors who made the 2019 Red Shield Run 5K possible – NIPSCO, Anthem BlueCross BlueShield, Apex, St. Andrew’s Products, The New-Dispatch and Family Express.

Proceeds from this event will support the many programs and services offered by The Salvation Army of Michigan City including a men’s overnight homeless shelter, food pantry, diaper bank, utility assistance, school uniform exchange, weekend backpack feeding program and summer camp.
