Event Information
Continuing concerns about COVID-19 mean many students at Ivy Tech Community College need help now more than ever.
Mindful of this, the Ivy Tech Foundation is ensuring one of its largest annual fundraisers will take place in a pandemic-adjusted, safe environment that still lets people enjoy a good meal and a good time.
This year’s Chancellors’ Scholarship event benefiting students at Ivy Tech’s Northwest Indiana campuses will be a “Party on the Go,” with pre-packaged meals available for pickup.
Party on the Go will take place Thursday, Oct. 7 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. near the gazebo at Avalon Manor, 3550 E. U.S. Hwy. 30, Merrillville. A tented area will allow for dancing, limited seating and a cash bar. Guests will be able to capture the moment at a photo mirror, and a brief program will acknowledge high-achieving students who received scholarships.
Region performers Jim Bulanda and Harley Hehr will provide entertainment from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Pre-packaged sweets from a Candy Bar and an Ivy Tech face mask are included with the carryout meals.
Tickets to Party on the Go cost $85, $45 of which is tax-deductible. Reservations can be made by Sept. 29 at https://connect.ivytech.edu/chancellorsevent2021 . Face masks will be required and social distancing will follow CDC guidelines. For more information, contact cjhall@ivytech.edu .
This is not the first time the Foundation has had to pivot when planning the Chancellors’ Scholarship event. In 2020, the event took place entirely virtually and consisted of college leadership, faculty and staff joining in on Zoom to celebrate the accomplishments of scholarship recipients.
The scholarships benefit students at the East Chicago, Gary, Crown Point, Valparaiso, Michigan City and LaPorte locations of Ivy Tech.
“We’ve learned a lot this past year about having events during a pandemic,” Cindy Hall, executive director of Resource Development, said. “Last year we were able to honor our students virtually. This year we are glad to be able to honor them in person with a modified format, while making sure everyone is comfortable with the health and safety precautions we will have in place.
“Many of our students really depend on the financial assistance we can provide, thanks in large part to events like this. Some wouldn’t be able to attend college without it. This past year has been especially difficult for them, so we need to make sure we continue to provide the resources they need to succeed.”
