Replacement hospital scheduled to open on Jan. 28

Franciscan Alliance is welcoming the public to an open house to get a glimpse inside the new Franciscan Health Crown Point hospital before it opens on Jan. 28.

The open house is scheduled to take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Central on Saturday, Jan. 13 at the new Franciscan Health Crown Point, 12750 Saint Francis Drive in Crown Point at the southeast corner of U.S. 231 and Interstate 65.

The family friendly event will feature tours of the state of the art hospital, health screenings, children’s activities, live ice sculpture demonstrations, chair massages, refreshments and live entertainment. Planned health screenings include body mass index, bone density, blood glucose, blood pressure, pulse oximetry and spirometry.

Attendees will have the chance win a variety of prizes, including a JBL Boombox 2 speaker, an Apple watch, a mountain bike, an Apple iPad and a grand prize 75-inch 4K smart TV.

Construction management company Tonn and Blank, headquartered in Michigan City, broke ground on the seven-story hospital project in September 2020. The hospital, which will replace the current Franciscan Health Crown Point at 1201 S. Main St., follows Franciscan Alliance’s regional approach to healthcare, which optimizes facilities and resources to improve the level of care for all of Northwest Indiana.

The modern hospital includes 199 inpatient beds with room to expand to 300, as well as an attached medical office building and expandable diagnostic and treatment centers.

The hospital was designed for maximum efficiency and ease of access for patients and staff alike using eco-friendly materials, equipment and methodologies while minimizing landfill waste wherever possible. The interior design takes inspiration from the heritage of The Sisters of St Francis of Perpetual Adoration and Indiana’s seasonal changes to provide a peaceful, timeless interior and exterior.

The building project included innovative construction processes, including the latest in virtual construction design. Patient bathrooms, medical office exam rooms and headwalls were built and fully furnished at Tonn and Blank’s offsite facility before being delivered and installed in the building at the construction site.

The advanced building design principals support the latest in cutting edge diagnostic, surgical and treatment options offered by Franciscan Health Crown Point’s multidisciplinary teams, all of which are aimed at providing the best possible outcomes for patients.
