South Shore Nautical Foundation, in cooperation with the Michigan City Yacht Club, located at Washington Park Marina, is again offering opportunities for youth and adults to learn to sail.

The Sailing Camp program for children ages 8 and older, is designed to teach the skills needed to sail and race. Classes are tailored to the age and ability of each student, emphasizing the fun of sailing.

Beginning sailors are encouraged to become comfortable on the water and under sail. Intermediate and advanced students learn the finer points of boat handling and racing tactics. The program encourages young people to stay in the sport of sailing after their “dinghy days.”

Students are instructed in Opti’s, an international youth training and one design race boat. Students with their own boat can be instructed in it. Advanced students will also receive instruction on Club Rigged 420s.

The sailing camp offers four, two-week sessions. Students may choose either morning or afternoon sessions starting on June 17th,, July 1st, July 15th and July 25th. Classes meet daily, Monday through Friday, except national holidays (July 4th). Classes are morning (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) or afternoon (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.).

Adult classes are offered in two, four-week sessions. Students are instructed in Capri’s. Session one begins 6/17. Session two begins 7/15.
