La Porte Physician Network providing free hernia education and screening in Michigan City

La Porte Physician Network will provide free hernia screening and education on Saturday March 14 at its Lifeworks Campus, 3777 N. Frontage Road, Suite 900 in Michigan City. Screening appointments and related education will start at 9:00 a.m. Pre-registration and scheduling is required. To register and to schedule your specific screening time call 219-325-7648.

Some symptoms of a hernia include a heavy feeling in the abdomen when bending over, pain when lifting heavy objects, or a lump that gets bigger with coughs or strain and then vanishes when lying down. At this session individuals will learn about causes, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of hernias, including minimally invasive, robotic-assisted surgery. A physician will also provide the hernia screenings.
