January is National Mentoring Month – CYA plans a “magical” bowl-a-thon event

In recognition of January as National Mentoring Month, Family Advocate’s Court Youth Advocate (CYA) Program is planning its annual Bowl-A-Thon Event to be held on January 25^th at Casey’s Lanes, La Porte, Indiana. Last year, La Porte and Michigan City Mayors signed a proclamation to recognize January as Mentoring Month and “encourage our community to celebrate the benefits of mentoring and the impact it has on young people.” It is in the spirit of this proclamation that community members are invited to participate as a team to bowl or businesses to sponsor the event to support our work with youth.

This year the event will be “Harry Potter” themed using the tagline “The Magic is in Our Choices.” All proceeds go towards the work of the program to assist struggling youth involved in juvenile court and provide support for academic and personal growth, life skills and positive peer relationships. Funding also helps CYA recruit and train adult volunteers to work with youth by mentoring and non-punitive involvement.
