Former Valparaiso University Gospel Choir members to host 25th-anniversary reunion concert to celebrate choir’s inception

Event Information

5:33am - 5:33am

The Valparaiso University Gospel Choir 25th anniversary reunion concert will be a part of the 2019 Family Weekend. The original choir was started in 1994 by incoming freshman students and former Valparaiso University Instructor, Mrs. Judith Erwin-Neville. Its size grew quickly over the next several years and it went on to become a popular course that was offered for credit. However, by the mid-2000s the choir had ceased to exist.

According to Mrs. Neville, a retired educator and the current owner of Gratz Opus 118 Music and Dance in Valparaiso, “The choir became a beacon of multicultural unity on the campus and provided students from varying religious backgrounds with another avenue to help express their faith. I am so proud of the students and how many of them have turned out. Some have gone on to earn doctorates and become educators themselves while another has become an editor for a major Christian magazine, Christianity Today. A few of them have even gone on to careers in music and have worked with Grammy and Dove award-winning artists. Many of us have not seen one another for 15-20 years. We are also hoping that the concert will serve as a catalyst for current students to reorganize the choir.”

The concert will be held on Saturday, October 26th, at Valparaiso University’s Center for the Arts at 7:30 PM. Admission is free and the concert is open to the public. For more information or to schedule an interview, please contact Judith Erwin-Neville.
