Community Healthcare System is offering free car seat safety checks on Sept. 25, National Seat Check Saturday.
A certified child passenger safety technician will assist in installing car seats, will inspect current seat installation and ensure children are in the appropriate seat for their age, height and weight. Children must be present for a proper fitting.
The car seat checks will be conducted from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, at Community Veterans Memorial, 9710 Calumet Ave., Munster. Appointments are required. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call (219) 703-1008.
Nearly half—48 percent—of all car seats are installed incorrectly, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
