Youth Service Bureau Big Brothers Big Sisters of LaPorte County Receives $11,500 Grant from the Alcoa Foundation

Grant to help fund Youth Leadership development through its Teen Court program.

alcoa-ysb-2014The Youth Service Bureau Big Brothers Big Sisters of LaPorte County has received an $11,500 grant from the Alcoa Foundation to help develop youth leadership through participation in the Teen Court Program.

Teen Court is a juvenile delinquency prevention program that also provides youth leadership opportunities for its volunteers. Steve Bernth, Executive Director of the Youth Service Bureau stated that, “Teen Court provides its volunteers with education, training, and “hands on” participation in the juvenile justice system. The experience enhances their formal education in government, promotes respect for law, develops public speaking and leadership skills, and encourages volunteerism”.

Alcoa Foundation is a global resource that actively invests in the quality of life in Alcoa communities worldwide. Alcoa/Howmet LaPorte has been a part of the LaPorte community since 1957.

The Youth Service Bureau Big Brothers Big Sisters of LaPorte County was created in 1972 and continues to provide programs and services relevant to youth and families today. YSB programs include Big Brothers Big Sisters & School Buddies, Teen Court, Kids on the Block, and Summer Program.
