Wolves Wire December 2014

MC Wolves logoRecently, the Indiana Department of Education released the 2013-14 A-F school grades and I am proud to report that Michigan City High School continues to show improvement. Since the A-F model began in 2011-12, we have improved in all four of the major categories used to rate Indiana high schools. While our 2013-14 grade of a C remained unchanged, we improved the total number of points received from 2.49 to 2.55. The increase in the points earned was largely credited to the number of sophomores who passed their English 10 and Algebra 1 end of course assessments. Another highlight from our grade is the 76.8% of the 2013 graduating class earning a dual credit, industry certification or passing an advanced placement exam. Michigan City High School remains a leader in the state in terms of college and career readiness as the 76.8% is well above the state expectation of 25% and the state average of 47%. As we strive to meet our vision, Excellence for Everyone, we have set our goal on moving to the next grade by improving the number of students who pass the end of course assessments and graduate college and career ready.

As the first semester comes to an end, December 19th, we have many activities taking place, most importantly the End of Course Assessments for Algebra 1 and English 10. Students who need to take one or both of the tests will receive notice of which day and room they will test during the week of December 8-12. Final exams will take place Thursday, December 18th and Friday December 19th.

I would like to wish everyone a happy holiday season and to invite you to our “One City, One Sound” concert on Thursday, December 4th at 7:00 p.m.
