“Wolf Pack Roundup” to Give Families a Preview of What’s Ahead at Middle, High School Levels

mcasMichigan City High School, Barker Middle School, and Krueger Middle School will open their doors to middle and elementary school families as they host “Wolf Pack Roundup” on Wednesday, March 23 at 5:30 p.m. The event will feature presentations, tours, and exhibits, and will give families an opportunity to meet teachers, counselors, and administrators.

Students in grades 5 and 6 and their families are encouraged to visit the middle schools in their attendance areas. Both schools maintain a strong emphasis on core classes and the arts, while incorporating specific themes:

  • Barker Middle School, 319 E. Barker Road. Barker offers a “STEM Academy” theme, which incorporates the Project Lead the Way pre-engineering program and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics enrichment.
  • Krueger Middle School, 2001 Springland Avenue. Krueger’s award-winning Outdoor Environmental Science Center is a model in the region for hands-on education. Its 100 acre campus has been transformed into a learning lab, where students perform experiments and conduct tours relating to Indiana history and environmental science.

Students in grades 7 and 8 and their families are encouraged to visit Michigan City High School, 8466 W. Pahs Road. The high school’s event is also open to high school students who may not currently attend MCHS but are considering attending City for next school year. MCHS will present a special program in its auditorium, with information on special programs and topics such Early College, Honors College, student life, athletics and much more.

The event is open to all students – public, private, charter, and homeschool. “Some families in our community may not realize the unparalleled opportunities we provide to students as they reach higher levels,” said Dr. Barbara Eason-Watkins, MCAS Superintendent. “Wolf Pack Roundup is designed to keep students motivated, to get them excited about what lies ahead. It’s also an opportunity for parents to ask questions and find out more about dual credit, high-ability programs, special needs services, career and technical options, and extra-curricular activities.”

“Wolf Pack Roundup” will be held immediately following MCAS parent-teacher conferences at the secondary level, which are also set for March 23 (2:30 – 5:30 p.m.)
