What Is Art Anyway – Everybody is an Artist

The presentation of “Recycled Releases”: a unique “work of art” by artist Sadie Bridger and the community will have been completed on this Last Sunday the 28th of October, 2012.

“Last Sunday” October 28, 2-4pm
Southern Shore Art Association Gallery
724 Franklin Street
Michigan City, IN 46360
219-879-4980
Open Hours: Fri, Sat, Sun 12-5pm

This community project has been hugely successful and the results are there to view. The work of art, created by “everybody” is quite extraordinary. Virtually all that entered the Gallery participated by allowing the artist within to express itself, draw on the walls, embellish a cameo or “release” their frustrations and secret wishes in the stacked cardboard cube.

In this piece, Sadie created a public ritual space where there is no piece of art without the effort of others and “everybody is an artist”. Most people know instinctively that self-expression has a therapeutic benefit. Our ancestors drew paintings on their cave walls as a means of expressing themselves. Consciousness -- thought -- being alive -- can for better or worse cause anxiety, and one of the best ways to get rid of anxiety is to express it. Thus writing, drawing, painting, singing -- all these forms that are called “art” began as ways of transforming thoughts and feelings.

Please join us and the artist on Sunday the 28th of October from 2-4pm for a different “Last Sunday” event “What is Art Anyway – Everybody is an Artist” to view this completed “Recycled Releases” project, put on finishing touches and take the part you created home, if you wish. After that the art work will get dismantled and recycled.
