Valpo Seeks Artists for Utility Box Designs

The City of Valparaiso and its Art Advisory Committee seek designs from local artists to  expand the utility box art program throughout the Valparaiso community. The utility box art  program was created by the City’s Redevelopment Commission in 2016 to promote public  art and local artists. The program has supported 12 locations to date, primarily in the  downtown area. In 2024, the goal is to expand the program to wrap more boxes throughout  the community. Artists are encouraged to submit existing or new work to help color more  corners of our community. The deadline to submit artwork is Dec. 31, 2023.

The City’s volunteer Art Advisory Committee will evaluate artists’ submissions and  determine which will be selected for a utility box wrap, along with the location for each. Upon  selection, the City will enter into an Artist Services Agreement with the selected artists. The  artwork is anticipated to remain on the utility box for three to five years, depending on any  wear and weather.
