Two Northwest Health hospitals earn reaccreditation for cardiac procedure

Echocardiography is used to view different areas of the heart and can detect heart disease and signs of serious conditions. Northwest Health hospitals in La Porte and Knox have been granted a three-year term of accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) in Echocardiography in the areas of adult stress and adult transthoracic.

This latest accreditation, awarded to both Northwest Health – Starke and Northwest Health – La Porte, demonstrates these facilities’ ongoing commitment to providing quality patient care in echocardiography.

Ashley Dickinson, Chief Executive Officer of both hospitals, expressed her pride in the cardiologists and cardiology staff members. She remarked, “Our cardiologists and the clinicians that support them are among the most experienced in the region. Their skills in performing echocardiograms are an important component in the quality of our entire cardiovascular program. This stamp of approval from the IAC is well deserved.”

According to the IAC, there are many factors that contribute to an accurate diagnosis based on echocardiography. The training and experience of the sonographer performing the procedure, the type of equipment used and the quality of the assessment metrics each facility is required to measure, all contribute to a positive patient outcome. The IAC accreditation is a “seal of approval” that patients can rely on as an indicator of consistent quality care.

Accreditation by the IAC means that both hospitals have undergone an intense review process and were found to be compliant with the published standards. Comprised of a detailed review by a panel of medical experts, the IAC accreditation process is an indication of the hospitals’ quality cardiac services.

Northwest Health – Porter is accredited by the IAC in the area of echocardiography adult transthoracic procedures as well.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), more than 2,150 die each day from cardiovascular disease which amounts to about one every 40 seconds.
