Two MCAS Middle School Students to Compete in State Geography Bee

Shawn-HillShawn Hill, an eighth-grader at Krueger Middle School, and Grace Wyness, a seventh-grader at Barker Middle School, have been notified by the National Geographic Society that they are semifinalists in the Indiana State Geographic Bee. The contest will be held in Indianapolis at IUPUI on Friday, April 4.

This is the third level of the National Geographic Bee competition. Students who won the competition at the school level took a qualifying test, which was submitted to the National Geographic Society. The society then invited students with the top 100 scores in each state to compete at the state level.

State winners receive prizes and a trip to Washington, D.C. to represent their state in the National Geographic Bee finals in May.

This is the second year in a row that Shawn Hill will represent Krueger at the State Geographic Bee. He was also one of the top 100 scores statewide last school year, when he competed as a seventh grader.

Congratulations to Grace and Shawn!
