Two Hospitals Net Kudos for Oncology Programs

rot5Becker's Hospital Review has published the 2015 edition of its list of "100 Hospitals and Health Systems With Great Oncology Programs” and Franciscan St. Anthony Health – Crown Point and Franciscan St. Anthony Health – Michigan City, are among them.

The list features organizations dedicated to treating cancer patients, as well as those researching the deadly disease. These hospitals and cancer centers stand out in terms of quality patient care, clinical outcomes and research achievements.

Becker's Hospital Review has published a version of this every year since 2012, and this is the third year it has included 100 hospitals.

Trish Weber, Franciscan St. Anthony - Michigan City vice president of operations and chief nursing officer, was pleased to hear the news.

“The entire Franciscan St. Anthony Health family is proud to receive news that our comprehensive cancer program has earned the prestigious Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Surgeons -Commission on Cancer, earning this distinction for the third consecutive time in 2009, 2012 and now 2015,” she said, adding “This national recognition not only demonstrates our ongoing commitment to the highest level of cancer care delivery, but it testifies to the dedication and commitment of our team in providing comprehensive, care to the patients and their families.”

Added Miki McClain, Franciscan St. Anthony - Crown Point director of oncology services, “Franciscan St. Anthony Health is extremely honored to be chosen as a part of this elite group of quality oncology programs. We feel that this recognition, as well as our Commission on Cancer Accreditation-Outstanding Achievement Award, is a direct reflection of the organization’s, physicians’ and staff’s commitment to excellence and high-quality, compassionate cancer care.”

The Becker's Hospital Review editorial team selected hospitals for inclusion based on recognition received, accreditations earned and memberships held in cancer care-oriented groups. Specifically, the Becker's team examined U.S. News & World Report's hospital rankings for treating cancer, CareChex cancer care rankings, BlueCross BlueShield Association Blue Distinction Center designation, National Cancer Institute designations, and Commission on Cancer accreditations and awards received, as well as membership in the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. Hospitals on this list have several of these recognitions.
