Two Purdue University Northwest College of Business faculty members have been recognized as Teddy Jacobi Scholars for the university’s 2017-18 academic year.
The honorees are Assistant Professor of Marketing Ceren Turedi of Chicago and Assistant Professor of Accounting Seung Won Lee of Munster. They were acknowledged at a recent university reception.
Supporting promising faculty “Support for this recognition is made possible by an endowment established by Dr. Mark and Judith Jacobi in memory of their son, Teddy,” Jane Mutchler, Teddy Jacobi Scholars Dean of PNW’s College of Business, said. “This award allows young, outstanding assistant professors who have achieved success in the classroom to spend a summer conducting research that will allow them to advance a successful scholarly program of study. We are very appreciative of the Jacobi’s generosity.”
Prior to his passing at age 15, Teddy Jacobi was an honor student, talented athlete and two-time state chess champion who loved to compete. He also demonstrated a strong, entrepreneurial spirit and drive to succeed in business.
“Going back many generations, our families came from the entrepreneurial world in both Europe and America,” Judith Jacobi, who serves Purdue Northwest as assistant vice chancellor of art collection and special programs, said. “Their successful ventures were important to the employment of people and economic growth of the places they lived.”
Advancing scholarly inquiry and business The endowment she and her husband, Mark, a local physician, established is intended to further the academic discipline of business.
“We wanted to blend scholarly inquiry with important aspects of economics, business development and strategy, business practice, ethics and innovation,” Judith Jacobi said. “We are grateful that this year, Dean Mutchler has designated funds to support two business faculty members as Teddy Jacobi Scholars to advance business research.”
Recognition as a Teddy Jacobi Scholar is reserved for promising and highly motivated untenured faculty members within Purdue Northwest’s College of Business who are dedicated to successful scholarly pursuits and instructional activities.
“The desire of the Jacobi’s to give back to Purdue Northwest in a manner that furthers the excellence of up and coming faculty members and benefits our students is an amazing tribute to their son,” Mutchler said.
