The South Shore Roller Girls are holding open try-outs Saturday, December 7th 2013 from 11am to 1pm. Try outs will be held at R-Way Skate Center in Portage, IN.
According to Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby Association, roller derby is the fastest growing sport in America. “This is a fantastic opportunity for those that have a passion for skating to be a part of a derby team and compete regionally,” stated Yvonne Lindahl with the South Shore Roller Girls.
The South Shore Roller Girls consists of 25 members. The team was created in July 2013 with founding members Yvonne Lindahl (Yvonna Rumble), Mallory DeGraff (Maltreatment), and Beth Garcia (Senorita Scarcia).
There is an entry fee of $10 (skaters) and a $5 fee for spectators, NSO’s (non-skating officials) and referees during try-outs. Skates are available for rental at R-Way Skate Center for $2.50. Skaters are welcome to bring protective gear but it is not required.
