LA PORTE (April 29, 2020) – La Porte’sTransporte will continue offering free transportation through May 15, according to Manager Beth West.
The transportation service began providing free rides for essential trips only back in March. West said Transporte will continue its “essential travel only” rule as they continue to monitor the COVID-19 outbreak.
“Given the high number of coronavirus cases throughout our state and country, we still are not able to make nonessential trips at this time,” West said. “However, as the economy slowly begins to open back up, we will be extending our hours and loosening some restrictions.”
Starting May 4, Transporte’s hours will be extended to 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Trips to grocery stores and pharmacies, previously restricted to Tuesdays and Thursdays, will be extended to all weekdays.
All rides must be scheduled through dispatch at 219-362-6565. For more information, contact West at 219-326-8274 or BWest@CityofLaPorteIN.gov.
