Torres-Perez Named Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week

Gary-South-Shore-RailcatsThe official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Gary SouthShore RailCats left-handed starting pitcher Braulio Torres-Perez has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending on June 25.

Torres-Perez went 2-0 in two starts and did not allow an earned run in 13 innings pitched against the Sioux City Explorers and the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Torres-Perez surrendered only six hits and five walks during that span while striking out 10. He lowered his season ERA total by 1.54 runs during those two starts

Against the RedHawks on Sunday, Torres-Perez took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, retired 14 of the 15 he faced, and struck out a season-high six batters in seven innings pitched—also a season high.

Torrez-Perez’s efforts helped the RailCats win six of their last seven games. He is the first RailCat to win the award this season.

Gary returns home to U.S. Steel Yard on Monday, July 3rd for the start of a seven-game homestand. Monday’s game vs. Fargo-Moorhead is at 7:10 p.m. and is another MetroPCS Monday. Monday’s series opener against the RedHawks is also the inaugural Fourth of Juluau Pig Roast, presented by Berey Bros., and features Fireworks and Barefoot Hawaiian Fire Dancers.
