The 2012-2013 Michigan City school year has come to a close. The seniors will officially be graduated this upcoming Sunday, June 16, and begin the next phase of their lives. Michigan City High School Students Sweep VFW Voice of Democracy Competition
Seven Michigan City High School sophomores won awards from the VFW Voice of Democracy Competition Patriotic Audio Essay Competition. The students submitted a five minute audio essay on the topic of “Is our constitution still relevant?” The winners were Joselyn Schooley, Brandon Rootes, Dayna Pedzinski. Girls Basketball Team hits Winning Streak
The Michigan City High School Girls Basketball team was on fire this past season. They hit a winning streak in January that landed them on the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Top 10 for the week of January 27. This came after a 50 point jump in the Coaches Poll after the Lady Wolves five game winning streak. Click here for more on the Lady Wolves!
Elston Students Get Fancy with Science
Sixth grade students at Boston Middle School combined basic physics knowledge and innovation to come up with their own “Rube Goldberg” machines. Each machine contained at least six steps and three machines and was executed in front of fellow classmates. Click here for the article and photos of the machines!
Wolves Capture Quiz Bowl Title
The Michigan City High School Quiz Bowl Team put their brains to the test and came out on top with a first place in the 2013 Duneland Area Conference Quiz Bowl Tournament. The victory, on Monday, March 11, at Chesterton High School, catapulted the team to the State Quiz Bowl Tournament. The team was taken to the top by Lillianna Pollnow, Olivia Glowacki, Veronika Werner, Theresa Saenz, Evan Prast, James Kaiser, Ryan Krueger, Wesley Deutscher, Joshua Palmer, and Tyler Richards. Barker Middle School Has a Ball
More than 150 Barker Middle School students helped raise $1,785.25 for the American Heart Association. Students donated at least $5 to participate in the “Hoops for the Heart” benefit at the middle school. The donation allowed each student to make a difference and participate in a game of volleyball or dodge ball. Click here for more information on this event!
You Can’t Stop the Beat is a Hit
On April 20, Michigan City High School pulled off a stellar performance of the musical “Hairspray.” The talented group of actors and actresses dance, sung, and acted their way to an unforgettable performance about coming of age in the 1950s. Michigan City High School Announces Hoosier Boys & Girls State Delegates
Seven tenacious Michigan City High School juniors were selected to participate in Hoosier Boys & Girls State this summer. These seven students will learn components of government, politics, and citizenship at Trine University in Angola. Girls State delegates from Michigan City High School this year are Christine Brennan, Erin Callaghan, and Amanda Yadavia. Boys State delegates are Zachary Biggs, Lucas Daurer, Anthony Lemon, and Erik Stevenson. Click here for the full article on the delegates!
Michigan City Sends Softball and Baseball Stars to All-DAC Team
Michigan City spring sports proved that they had some serious power players. Andrew Ray, selected as a utility player, represented Michigan City High School baseball on the 2013 All-Duneland Athletic Conference Boys Baseball Team. Click here to read more about Ray! The Wolves Softball team sent two players to 2013 All-Duneland Athletic Conference All-Star Team. Jameka Collins was sent as an infielder and Aubria Smith was sent as an outfielder. Michigan City High School Participates in Disaster Drill
The Michigan City High School theater students got a chance to help with disaster preparedness and test their acting chops on June 5th. Thirty students pretended as if they were injured from a mock amusement park ride accident. The twist came when a “victim” proclaimed he had a bomb. The local police departments and hospital had a chance to practice disaster protocol thanks to the dramatic acting skills of Michigan City students. Click here for the full article!
