United Way of LaPorte County's Third Annual Dodgeball Challenge took place on May 5, 2012 at Michigan City High School. Thirty two teams entered. The tournament featured celebrity judges and a Stuff-the-Bus Challenge, and entrants and attendees were asked to bring non-perishable items to help fill our local food pantries. Awards were given for most creative individual, most creative team uniforms, and most valuable players!

The United Way of La Porte County's annual golf outing, one of the organization's signature events, returned for its eighth year on Monday at Pottawattomie Country Club in Michigan City. It did not take long for the event to sell out as 144 golfers signed up immediately after registration opened.

Hundreds of people ventured to the Thomas Rose Industrial Park groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate an economic achievement for the city of La Porte, La Porte County, and all of Northwest Indiana. Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels was on hand to honor the ceremony and spoke along with La Porte Mayor Blair Milo and Tom Casey, Vice President at Space Center LLC, the company developing the 137 acre expansion of the property.
