1. Runners and Bicyclists Take Off for Tour de La Porte

The 13th annual Tour de La Porte started Saturday morning under foggy skies and high humidity but did not dampen the spirits of the participants and volunteers as they prepared for the various events planned for the day. A half marathon (13.1 miles) started the morning off at 6:30 a.m., which was followed by a 10k (6.2 miles), a 5k (3.1 miles) road biking time trials, and mountain biking time trials.

2. Hundreds Compete During 35th Annual La Porte County Family YMCA Triathlon

Over 330 athletes participated in 35th Annual Triathlon this morning at Soldier's Memorial Park in La Porte, Indiana. The conditions were ideal and the volunteers and athletes were ready to take on the challenging course over the next few hours. The USAT sanctioned event featured a 1/4 mile lake swim, 12.4 mile bike ride and 3.3 mile run.

On Saturday morning, the corner of Washington and 8th was filled with people getting ready for the annual Samaritan Skedaddle. It was a 5k that ran through the Downtown Arts District and along the lake shore in Michigan City.

While most people were still enjoying a quiet and snowy Sunday morning, a small group of La Porte County Family YMCA members were getting ready to swim, bike and run at the 7th Annual Indoor Triathlon. Despite the field being small, there was great encouragement and bright smiles from all participants.

8. The 2014 Day of Dance Gets to the Heart of the Matter

The Radisson Star Plaza was filled with ladies and gentlemen of all ages and races on Sunday afternoon. The third annual Day of Dance for Your Health was being presented by Franciscan Alliance, Inc. and it proved to be a wonderful and interactive way to educate the community on health and wellness. This may be the third annual event locally, but it is the 10th anniversary for National Day of Dance and this makes it the biggest dance party for health awareness in the US.

 9. Franciscan St. Anthony Health Contributes to EDCMC's Community Investment Campaign

Franciscan St. Anthony Health is continuing their dedication to assisting economic development in Northwest Indiana. On Wednesday, Hospital President James Callaghan presented a check for $10,000 to the Economic Development Corporation Michigan City (EDCMC) for the 2014-16 community investment campaign.

10. 2014 Blue Chip Casino Hosts 5K Run, Walk & Stroll

103 participants took part in the second annual 5K Run, Walk, and Stroll at Blue Chip Casino Hotel and Spa. The race raised nearly $5,000 from pre-registered runners and generous sponsors such as IU Health La Porte Hospital, La Porte County United Way, Michigan City Parks Department, GAF Materials, Sauers, Blue Chip Casino and Northwest Athletic Club.
