Nearly one hundred representatives of La Porte businesses, organizations, and community groups gathered on May 30, 2012 in the La Porte Best Western Plus Conference Center for the 10th Annual State of the City Luncheon for the La Porte Chamber of Commerce.

Mayor Blair Milo, making her inaugural State of the City address, stated that she knows great things are in store for the City of La Porte, because, “We have the resources, talent, and a plan to progress.”

The Harley-Davidson of Michigan City store saw an opportunity to combine two celebrations into one big party as the store held a special event on Saturday, September 22, 2012.

The party was held to celebrate the 13th anniversary of the opening of the Harley-Davidson of Michigan City store along with the grand opening of the new brand available in their store, Triumph of Michigan City. Partygoers were treated to live music from Jim Post, food and drinks provided by Leroy’s Hot Stuff, among many more activities.

On a beautiful fall afternoon, around 200 people ventured to the Thomas Rose Industrial Park groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate an economic achievement for the city of La Porte, La Porte County, and all of Northwest Indiana.

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels was on hand to honor the ceremony and spoke along with La Porte Mayor Blair Milo and Tom Casey, Vice President at Space Center LLC, the company developing the 137 acre expansion of the property.

It has been a blockbuster week for economic development in La Porte County. This morning at the Kingsbury Industrial Park in La Porte, Indiana, a strong crowd of business, community, regional, and state leaders came together to celebrate the groundbreaking for the INland Logistics Port.

Among the VIP's attending or presenting today were Congressman Joe Donnelly, La Porte County Commissioner Ken Layton, La Porte County Councilman Rich Mrozinski Jr., Greater La Porte Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Bert Cook, Director of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation Leigh Morris, City of La Porte Mayor Blair Milo, and Michigan City Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Kevin Kieft.

2012 has been an incredibly busy year for Bert Cook and the Greater La Porte Economic Development Corporation (GLEDC), with the groundbreaking for the Thomas Rose Industrial Park, the Inland Logistics Groundbreaking, Winn Machine expanding into La Porte, and a strong partnership with La Porte Mayor Blair Milo to bring jobs to the city and county.

Building upon that excellent progress, GLEDC recently partnered with Morse + Harris Marketing to completely upgrade their website, which has recently been relaunched at www.gledc.com.

A blustery Tuesday morning in late October served as the setting for the La Porte and Michigan City Area Chamber of Commerce Economic Briefing. Dozens of professors and business professionals gathered for breakfast at Purdue University North Central.

La Porte Chamber President Mike Seitz explained the reason they have been organizing this semi-annual event for the last eleven years. “There was previously no relationship between the PNC business school and the community,” Seitz said, “[this] provides a forum for discussing issues and trends.”
