Snow much fun abounds at the City of La Porte’s Winterfest 2024
Winter is a time ripe with snow, ice, and cold temperatures. The City of La Porte’s Winterfest has arrived with all of that. However, contrary to a lot of things associated with the season, La Porte is bringing people to the outdoors. The three-day event kicked off on Friday, January 26 with ice carvers sculpting statues in Plaza 618. The ice sculpting event was the first in a weekend filled with fun events. It was also one of several free events at Winterfest.
Burn ‘Em Brewing opens new location & taproom, welcoming a full house crowd
It is a big weekend for craft beer fans in Michigan City, and things kicked off in a special way on Friday night when Burn ‘Em Brewing celebrated the grand opening of their brand new location at 1215 E. 2nd Street.
Located just a few doors down from Blue Chip Casino, the new building represents a major milestone for Burn ‘Em, who opened its original taproom back in 2015. It features a larger taproom, an event center, and soon, a full kitchen. Situated right on U.S. 12, it is also more visible and accessible – especially for cyclists. Burn ‘Em began work on the building exactly one year to the day before Friday’s grand opening, and owner Steve Murray was thrilled to see a crowd packed in minutes after he opened the doors.

Michigan City’s third annual Singing Sands Sand Sculpting Festival is underway, bringing some of the world’s greatest sand sculptors to the city for a professional competition and exhibition. At 7:30 p.m. on July 21, the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra (LCSO) will be presenting its annual summer concert at the Friendship Botanic Gardens in Michigan City. The City of La Porte’s annual Lakefest made its return this year. The weekend was filled with entertaining activities for families and kids of all ages. People throughout the Region gathered at Stone Lake Beach and Fox Park to enjoy all that La Porte had to offer.
“It’s important because it brings pride to our community and makes them feel proud that this is going on in their backyard,” Mayor Tom Dermody said. “They don’t have to go elsewhere to enjoy it.”
