Thomas Owens Named the Next Chief of Police for the City of La Porte

Mayor Mark Krentz announced today that Thomas E. Owns will be the next Chief of Police for the City of La Porte. Owens, most recently served as Captain of the midnight shift, Chief Owens has twenty-six (26) years of experience with the La Porte Police.

"I have 100% confidence that Chief Owens will lead our department with integrity, strength, and a commitment to our community," stated Krentz.

In his 26 years of police work, Chief Owens has served in a variety of roles, including Deep Cover Narcotics Operative, Chief Defensive Tactics Instructor, Narcotics Detective and SWAT Team Supervisor. v Chief Owens' appointment is effective Tuesday, October 3, 2017. He is replacing Chief Adam Klimczak, who resigned as Chief and has resumed his duties as a Captain in the La Porte City Police Department.

Assistant Chief Julie Smith will remain in her role as Assistant Chief with the La Porte City Police Department.
