The Social and Learning Institute is pleased to announce the completion of its facility’s renovation located at 201 East Garfield Street in Michigan City. On Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. the Institute invites the public to join in celebration as they express their appreciation to the many donors, grantors, volunteers, and highly skilled professionals whose generosity, dedication, and hard work made the building project possible. This very special event will celebrate the many opportunities the Institute’s new space offers their students, staff, and community partners.
The Institute is also proud to reveal their innovative “energy efficient” space as designed by Roger Potratz of dh2w, Inc. Architecture-Planning. The design utilizes “greenhouse effect” energy and a process of recapturing heat to significantly reduce the use of traditional energy and heating costs. Likewise in the warm months, the solar design conserves energy and reduces cooling costs. In June 2013, Executive Director Jim Guerrucci and the Board of Trustees named the building expansion “Potratz Hall” in honor of Roger’s many years of service to the Board of Trustees and his expert commitment to the renovation project.
As part of this event, the Institute is honored to include a concert performance by the South Bend Symphony String Quintet and Michigan City Chamber Music Festival Musicians: Nic Orbovich, violin; Zofia Glashauser, violin; Lara Turner, cello; Gabriel Schlaffer, viola; and Ed Randles, double-bass.
