The Salvation Army of La Porte Red Kettle Campaign a Rousing Success!

salvation-army-logoThe Salvation Army of La Porte is pleased to report that the “2012 “Red Kettle Campaign” was a rousing success. The $83.000.00 raised represents a 40% increase from last year’s campaign.

What factors were behind this dramatic increase for 2012 in the midst of a challenging economy? A number of components seem to have come together to bring about these tremendous results. Here are a few of the items that have made a difference:

  • The “Kettle Coordinator” Jari Troth did a great job of engaging new volunteers and volunteer groups all across the city. We had 12 locations across the city and had more of them manned by volunteers this year.
  • We started early and developed good momentum and enthusiasm that carried on and continued to build throughout the entire city and Holiday Season.
  • We received extensive publicity from the local media outlets including, radio, TV, online, and print media.
  • Pastor Billy Nickrand of The Door United Methodist Church broke the World Record of 60 hours plus for continuous bell ringing while creating a great awareness across the city and region of the extensive need in our area. His Herculean effort brought an entire community together.
  • There is a renewed spirit of cooperation between the Salvation Army and the churches and benevolence organizations across the city that has generated confidence in Salvation Army and a subsequent upturn in donations.

The Salvation Army Corps Leader, Envoy Greg Irwin says, “I’m thrilled and humbled by the amazing response to our 2012 Kettle Campaign. A big thanks goes out to our volunteers all across our community. Also a special thanks to Jari Troth, our “Kettle Coordinator” who served tirelessly in engaging volunteers and handing all the details of the kettles. No one, except the Lord, knows all the behind the scenes details that makes this a reality. Jari has been a real blessing in advancing our cause.”

Jari Troth comments on her role as the Kettle Coordiantor, "Even after all the hard work, I am even more convinced that God lead me to put down my paint brush and serve in this way. I have been a painter for the past 19 years, and felt led to come and help serve with our La Porte Salvation Army during this past holiday season. I feel so blessed and proud to have worked with so many people, both paid and volunteers, that also wanted to help share and spread God's love to others within our community. These efforts will help support and assist many in the upcoming year. I strongly encourage everyone to always trust in God, to follow your hearts and to get involved with helping others. Nothing is more rewarding that helping to make a difference in someone else's life!

Once again, we want to thank the community of La Porte for its generous support of The Salvation of Army of La Porte. Our commitment is to use these funds to do “The Most Good” for our less fortunate friends and neighbors in the La Porte area.
