Lacrosse has rapidly grown in Northwest Indiana, with several high schools and club teams competing in state and regional leagues. A program called NWI Forge Lacrosse serves as a feeder program, developing young talent for high school teams throughout the area. As more athletes take up the sport, programs expand, competition intensifies, and the game's popularity continues to rise across the Region.
One of the key programs in the area is Munster High School Club Lacrosse, which competes in the Indiana High School Lacrosse Association (IHSLA) and is open to area high school students. The Munster Boys team has an upcoming game against New Prairie High School on Saturday, April 6, at Munster's practice field starting at 1 p.m. The Munster Girls team will face Crown Point High School on Tuesday, April 8, at Crown Points flex field. The game will start at 6 p.m.
Another emerging program is Valparaiso Lacrosse Club, which was established in 2021 and set to launch its first varsity high school season in 2025. The Valparaiso High School Boys team recently played a competitive match against Munster on March 15, falling 10-9. Their next game is scheduled for Thursday, April 3, against Victory Christian Academy at 6 p.m.
Crown Point's lacrosse program has grown significantly since its inception by emphasizing sportsmanship, competitive play, and overall athletic development. In the 2024 season, the Boys Varsity team delivered impressive performances, including a dominant 23-3 win over Victory Christian Academy, a 17-2 victory against Chesterton High School, and a narrow 8-7 win over Zionsville High School.
Chesterton's Boys Varsity Lacrosse team also had a strong 2024 season, finishing with an 8-5 record while scoring 99 goals and conceding 90. Their season highlights included key victories against Lafayette William Henry Harrison High School (11-3), Argos High School (8-3), and New Prairie (15-5).
On the girls' side, the Chesterton Varsity Lacrosse team started the season with a doubleheader against two Michiana area schools. Despite a tough start, the team has showcased resilience and determination throughout the season.
Beyond Northwest Indiana, lacrosse thrives in the South Bend and Michiana area. South Bend John Adams High School holds a 2-4 record this season. South Bend Bears Lacrosse, founded in 2015, claimed the Indiana High School State Championship in 2021. The school recently introduced a Girls' Varsity 1A team in 2023.
According to MaxPreps, several standout players are making an impact in the Michiana area. This includes Penn High School’s Brooks Clark, and South Bend Saint Joseph High School’s Jack Keegan and Freddy Helmen.
Lacrosse continues to expand in Northwest Indiana and Michiana. These developments are giving young athletes more opportunities to compete at higher levels and further develop their skills.
