The La Porte Chamber Enjoys the Last Leg of Summer on the Golf Course

There was a special event at the Briar Leaf Golf Course in La Porte on Thursday afternoon. It was the La Porte Chamber’s 9th Annual Crazy Eight Golf Outing. This event takes place so that ChamberMembers can get together for a fun and interesting game of golf.

Jeff Love,Vice President of Purdue Federal Credit Union was at the outing. Purdue Federal Credit Union is a Chamber Member and this was Love’s first time attending the event and he was really enjoying himself.

“We felt that this was a golf outing for all skill levels. And we thought that this is something where everybody could have fun,” Love said. “We heard about it at the Chamber’s official golf outing about a month ago. I had not heard of the format that they were using and it’s so unique. It’s something different and it’s going to be really fun.”

It was a nine-hole game that was played by eight-person teams. The twist of “crazy eight” is that each player on the team plays with one club which they must use for the entire game. And the order in which the players take turns never changes, so someone may get stuck using a putter when he or she tees off on one turn, but then get to use the putter on the green in the next.

“The purpose of this outing is just to have fun and provide networking opportunities for our Chamber Members,” La Porte Chamber President Mike Seitz said. “This is a great way to cap off the year in September with the final outing and have a good time with everybody.”

Six groups attended the outing and they all had a great time on the course. Each person laughed and chatted with easy smiles. The conversation was warm and fun-filled as the players enjoyed the final days of summer on the green.

After the game, Members had a wonderful dinner that was catered by the Briar Leaf’s restaurant –Portofino Grill. Two awards were handed out; a first place trophy and a “Better Luck Next Year” trophy.
