The Greater La Porte Chamber of Commerce and Horizon Bank Working Together to Build a Strong Community

The Greater La Porte Chamber of Commerce held their annual membership luncheon at Christo’s in La Porte. All the members who took the time to attend went through the process of sharing the latest and upcoming events occurring in the community and planning for next month’s event. These meetings present great opportunities for members from the community to meet and discuss the latest developments.

In the beginning of the meeting, Reins of Life, a therapeutic horseback riding organization located in South Bend and Michigan City were present to thank the chamber for their support as well and announcing their ‘Swing for Reins” golf outing. It’s through support through the community and the chamber, this organization can continue its goal of helping disabled people through horse riding.

The guests of honor and sponsors of this month’s lunch, Horizon Bank were present to discuss different services that Horizon Bank offers to the community and the many ways each specific service could not only benefit businesses, but normal residents as well.

Mike Riehle, VP Commercial Loan Officer credited this year as an excellent time for La Porte to embrace more business and financial related decisions that would ultimately benefit La Porte.

“The market is picking up and the rates are still low,” said Riehle. “This is a good time to tackle some of the bigger community projects.”

Riehle stressed that Horizon Bank was dedicated to helping with more than just banking options, wanting it to be a “one stop shop” for all financial services.

“Whether its commercial banking, mortgage needs, auto needs or even real estate needs, we’re ready to help you through those processes.”

Other options available from Horizon Bank included trust and investment management and retail banking services focused on both commercial and business needs.

“Whether you want to have an advisor with your financial options or even a trustee, we have people who are happy to help you with your specific needs,” said Horizon Bank Trust Officer Marty Hickey. “Even if you feel like you want to have control over everything, you can use an advisory account to receive advice, but retain control.”

The final topic discussed was the new addition for small businesses with new chip technology for credit and debit cards. Called an EMV chip, these chips were specifically designed for the protection against fraudulent card use.

“Both businesses and individuals must be extremely cautious of fraudulent card use,” said Horizon Bank VP Treasury Management Sales Manager Mary Wright. “One misused card could end up costing thousands of dollars.

At the end of the presentation, all Horizon Bank members stressed the importance of serving the community of La Porte and serving on the La Porte Chamber as well.

“We’re here to ultimately give back to the community, this has always been a big component,” said Riehl. “The chamber has allowed us to fit this goal perfectly.”

Michael Seitz, President of the Greater La Porte Chamber of Commerce also credits Horizon Bank as one of their strongest partners and an integral part of the La Porte Community.

“They are simply a great partner and a great leader for the community, in fact, all communities they serve,” said Seitz. “They are always wanting to work closely with us to make sure that La Porte is in good hands.”
