Time to get those old hats with the veils and flowers out of their hat boxes and wear them to the Opening Day Reception for the new display at the La Porte County Historical Society Museum on Saturday, June 6th at 1 P.M. The new display, entitled “The Finishing Touch”, features ladies’ accessories and will be on exhibit for the entire summer of 2015.
Shoes, gloves, jewelry, and all the fixings will be featured in the display. From the 1920’s through the 1970s’, ladies accessories had much more importance to our everyday lives than at the present time. Shoes and handbags must match! Never leave the house without your gloves! Pearls: real or fake? These were all decisions that had to be made before the well-dressed lady went out the front door. The Historical Society’s vast collection of accessories is being explored by new museum intern, Rachel Tavaras, who has been instrumental in preparing this exhibit. Items on display will be featured in the Period Rooms and Meeting Room on the first level, and in Exhibit Hall on the lower level.
Light refreshments will be served in the meeting room at the Opening Day Reception for the new display. Any lady wearing a hat from by-gone days will get $1 off regular museum admission, for that day only. “White-Glove Ladies” will be available for tours of the display.
The La Porte County Historical Society Museum is located at 2405 Indiana Avenue in La Porte, and is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00A.M. to 4:30P.M. The museum is accessible to those with disabilities.
