The Acorn Theater Presents “The Hat and the Little Black Dress”

acorn theaterA Fashion show and sale featuring the work of The Milliners of Etsy

The Acorn Theater is host to “The Hat and The Little Black Dress”, a fashion show featuring the work of The Milliners of Etsy on Sunday, June 9 at 3:00 p.m. Twelve hat-makers from across the United States will gather to show their collections while international members will send a hat for a parade of some of the finest millinery the world has to offer.

Styles vary from traditional to avant garde and audience members may come expecting to find the perfect hat for Downton Abbey parties, weddings, the races, and the red carpet as well as Comicon, and Steampunk and Rockabilly events.

Milliners with international reputations such as Belle McCluskey of Boring Sidney, Jenny Pfanenstiel of Formé Millinery and Karen Morris will share the stage with up and coming talents like Amanda Joyner of Chef Bizarro, Kristen Silverman and Emily Moe of Moe Sew Co. Attending milliners come from Chicago, Colorado, Minneapolis and Washington state. In addition, hat-makers from Ireland, Scotland, London, Australia and Tel Aviv will send a select piece of their work to be included in the fashion show. All of the work presented, and more, will be available for sale next door to the theater at Journeyman Distillery following the runway event.

The hats will be put in the spotlight over the classic and elegant blank slate of The Little Black Dress (LBD). Audience members are encouraged to wear their own LBD. Models are dancers provided by The Chicago Ballet. Playwright and performer Charles Busch will emcee the event. Busch is the author and star of such plays and films as Die Mommie Die, Psycho Beach Party and the Tony nominated The Tale of the Allergist's Wife. He will bring verve and eclectic energy to what promised to be an already eclectic evening.

The Milliners of Etsy is a team of individual shop owners - much like a chamber of commerce or artisan guild, but with a global reach. The group is built around the principle that if the art of hat-making is going to thrive, artisans should share their art with as many people as possible. More milliners equals more people wearing hats. In just a few years membership jumped from just 25 to more than 375. The group has received attention from publications in the US and Britain for their quarterly challenges.

The Hat and the Little Black Dress will be on Sunday, June 9 at 3:00 p.m. at The Acorn Theater, 107 Generations Dr., Three Oaks Michigan. Tickets are $80 for front row, $40 for second row and $20 for general admission. The sale will follow the show at Journeyman Distillery.
