The 2015 Taste of La Porte Preview Guide

TOLP-1It’s time to grab the forks and get the taste buds ready for the always popular Taste of La Porte, coming to the Civic Auditorium Lawn on Aug. 8 from 3:00-9:00 pm!

For those unfamiliar, the Taste of La Porte is a celebration and showcase of the best food, music, and vendors the city has to offer, and this year the event’s organizers are kicking it up even another level.

“This year we’ve opened up the Taste of La Porte to all of La Porte County,” said Director of Downtown La Porte, Thaddeus Cutler. “It’s really going to be a big showcase of what La Porte and Michigan City have to offer.”

Here’s a taste of the good times:

Music:

This year’s music lineup is stacked with a diverse lineup of bands that will offer something for everyone, with shorter sets designed to give attendees a taste of the best music around town.

“We try to keep the same format as the food,” added Cutler.

3:00 Music:

The Taste of La Porte will kick off with Gunpowder Treason, a Country/Rock band performing a very special all-acoustic set.

5:00 Music:

After Gunpowder Treason, HiFi2WiFi (featuring a couple native La Porteans) will take the stage with their signature style of adapting their set to the mood of the crowd. So if you are there at the Taste of La Porte to have some fun, then so is HiFi2WiFi.

7:00 Music:

The evening will cap off with local favorites, Junior and the Igniters. Fresh off their a-la Johnny Cash performance at the Indiana State Penitentiary in Michigan City, Junior and the Igniters will be closing out a great evening in La Porte with their high-energy rockabilly stylings.

Food:

Ah, yes, the food. This year’s food lineup will feature some of the best that La Porte has to offer with a few Michigan City favorites joining the mix as well.

Vendors for this year include (with more added everyday): Etropal; Sacred Heart with their famous pierogis; Pine Grove Banquet Hall Food Truck; Momma Sue’s; Arturo’s Baked Goods; Extreme Freeze (Italian Ice); Spire Farm-to-Fork Cuisine; Digzy Dogz; Cool Runnings; and Lulu Lick’s.

Plus, local breweries Twisted K-8 and Back Road will be there serving up local favorites, in addition to a number of other beer, wine, and drink options.

And, of course, there’s fun for the whole family too with bounce houses for the kids, vendor tents selling various local crafts and jewelry and a special diamond dig put on by the Greater La Porte Chamber of Commerce; where for $10 a ticket you can search for various colored plastic diamonds that translate into tickets that could win you a 1.5 carat diamond necklace, courtesy of Engstrom Jewelers in La Porte.

This year’s Taste of La Porte will be rain or shine, if the weather doesn’t play ball every one can just head on in to the Civic Auditorium to keep the party moving. Admission is free.
