Support the La Porte Fire Department Cadet Program in 2015

la-porte-fire-deptThe La Porte Fire Department is creating a Cadet program and is asking for assistance from area businesses.

The Firefighter Cadet program will allow 8 high school students an opportunity to train and interact with La Porte's bravest. Throughout a two year commitment, students will be trained in all aspects of firefighting from CPR to automobile extrication. They will use the same tools and equipment the firefighters use on a daily basis. Students will also be trained in building pre-plan inspections and public safety programs. Cadets will be allowed to participate in fire safety programs at schools and the EDITH house programs.

The Fire Department will provide the Cadets with proper uniforms and PPE. Initial cost per Cadet is $650. The La Porte Fire Department is asking the community for assistance in funding the start-up costs for the program. Maintenance costs will be absorbed by the LPFD and future costs will be gradually phased into the budget as funds become available.

Sponsorship of a Cadet will buy uniform shirts and cap, fire helmet and boots, firefighting gloves and a pair of coveralls. The sponsor will receive a receipt for their donation in addition to a certificate of appreciation. Additionally, a full sponsorship recognition decal will be placed on the Cadet's coveralls.

Any questions regarding the program or sponsoring a Cadet can be directed to A.C. Pressler at Fire Station 1 or by phone at 219.362.8417.
