Performing Arts Camp

Mrs. Amy Crane, MQT’s Instructor of Performing Arts and MQT’s dance coach Caitlin Warren ’08 will direct this camp for boys and girls. The focus is on theatre history, stage movement, vocal work, technical theatre and performance.

Caitlin will also present as a guest speaker.

Amy Crane earned her bachelors degree in Theatre Production from the University of Indianapolis.

Caitlin Warren earned her bachelors degree in modern dance and nutrition from the University of Utah.

Campers are asked to bring a lunch and wear comfortable clothes

Soccer Camp

The camp, run by MQT head girls soccer coach, Lacey Hersman, will focus on developing each player’s technical skills as well as team tactical awareness. Ball control, passing, possession, communication and shooting activities will be utilized.

Coach Hersman’s fun and energetic approach to coaching allows her players to grow and develop.

Guest Speaker: Valparaiso University’s Women’s Head Soccer Coach - John Marovich.

Coach Marovich has been the head coach for the Crusaders since 2008. He ranks second in VU history in victories, and his .526 willing percentage is tops all-time for the Crusader program.

Creative Writing Camp

In this five day session, facilitated by Mrs. Cathy Kramer ’90 LaFrance, will cover releasing your creativity, how to write a short story, writing from a point of view, bringing your writing to life, writing characters, writing dialogue and how to write poems.

Mrs. LaFrance is a teacher in MQT’s World Language Department. Prior to coming back to MQT as a teacher, she wrote for the La Porte Herald Argus.

Volleyball Camp

Facilitated by MQT’s head volleyball coach Jan Fitzpatrick, along with the varsity squad, this five day session will focus on the fundamentals of volleyball, technique in each position and game play experience.

Campers will be grouped by ability level and no experience is required.

Guest Speaker: Ms. Shakeila Castile-Jones. She is the Midwest Director for the EVP Tour.

The EVP’s primary aim is to support beach volleyball events.

Shakeila played and coached volleyball at Chicago State University and coached at Wright State University.

Basketball Camp

MQT’s head boys basketball coach, Donovan Garletts, along with his staff of coaches and varsity squad, will be facilitating this five day camp that will focus on fundamentals in passing, shooting and defense.

Campers will be grouped by skill level to maximize their camp experience. Individual competitions and team games will highlight skills taught throughout the week.

Guest Speaker: Homer Drew

Coach Homer Drew is best known for leading Valparaiso’s improbable run in the 1998 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament. Coach Drew was head coach at VU from 1988 - 2011.

Tennis Camp

MQT’s varsity tennis coach and tennis pro, Jay Adams, will facilitate this camp.

The camp w i l l focus on the fundamentals of tennis and learning the strategy of the sport, including learning the proper techniques for ground strokes, volleys and serve. Campers will be broken up by skill level to maximize their camp experience.

Guest Speaker: Jim Daugherty.

Jim has been Valparaiso University’s head men’s tennis coach since 1985. He has coached 36 All Mid-Continent Conference selections, including Conference Player of the year in 1998, 2002 and 2006.
