A new test program by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rates the performance of front crash prevention systems. This test program included evaluation of the EyeSight pre-collision braking system on Subaru Legacy and Outback models.
Subaru Legacy and Outback are the only vehicles to receive the highest possible score of six points and were two of the seven models out of 74 tested to receive the highest possible “Superior” rating. In addition, the 2014 Legacy and Outback models are 2013 Top Safety Pick+ winners. Subaru vehicles have a great reputation for safety and this is another example of Subaru global leadership in active safety technology.
The IIHS rated models with optional or standard front crash prevention systems as Superior, Advanced or Basic, depending on whether they offer autonomous braking, or autobrake, and, if so, how effectively it helps to prevent collisions at 12 mph and 25 mph.
The Subaru EyeSight system is available on select Subaru Forester, Legacy and Outback models and is one of the most affordable of such technologies available. EyeSight uses two cameras mounted inside the windshield on each side of the rearview mirror, thus reducing the potential for damage that could occur with bumper-mounted systems such as radar. Under certain circumstances, EyeSight is able to bring the car to a complete stop, helping to reduce the impact of, or avoiding, a collision.
