The Fine Arts Fridays are a month of arts infused lessons that are designed to enhance learning in the classroom. Depending on the grade level we may integrate the arts into Science, Social Studies, Language Arts and even Math.
Our fifth graders are currently studying pre-Columbian Native Americans in Social Studies so we are learning music, dance, theater and visual art projects to support this unit. Here are some pictures from our Native American Fire Pits.
Students made clay pots with our art teacher Mrs. Holly Beadles and then used a technique like the early Native Americans used to fire the pots. Students learned a great deal from this lesson and had a wonderful discussion about how the variation in colors on their pots were derived from the various materials used to create smoke in the fire.
If you would like to see and hear more about what our students are learning please stop by Pine Fine Arts Magnet Elementary on Thursday, September 25th at 6:30 pm. We will be showcasing our artifacts and performing our dramatization of a Native American legend as well as singing and playing Native American music.
