Members of the community are invited to stop by the Depot for a glass of lemonade in support of the ALS Association of Indiana. Stephanie Komasinski, a nine year-old resident of La Porte is coordinating a lemonade stand to raise funds for the organization. The event will take place from Noon – 4 p.m. on Friday, July 6 in front of the offices at the renovated train Depot in La Porte. Stephanie, an incoming fourth grader at Crichfield Elementary School, came up with the idea to support the ALS foundation to honor her grandfather, who suffers from the disease. ALS, often referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease,” is a fatal neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells and the spinal cord. Today, there is no known cause or cure for ALS.
All proceeds from Steph’s Lemonade Stand will be donated to the ALS Association. The ALS Association is leading the fight to cure and treat ALS through research, patient and community services, public education, and advocacy. For more information about the ALS association, log on to: www.alsaindiana
